Coastal Foraging

about us

Forage Pembrokeshire delivers weekly foraging walks and wild food experience events, all over Pembrokeshire and occasionally across the border in Carmarthenshire

Forage Pembrokeshire

Forage Pembrokeshire was created in 2022

by founder and professional forager Dan Moar, following the success of his foraging courses with

Black Rock Outdoor Company

We offer a variety of different foraging experiences, that can be tailored to your requirements, in various locations and habitats. These include hedgerow, coastal, salt marsh, woodland & meadows or a combination of all.

Most foraging walks are open for everyone to join, however private experiences and gift vouchers are also available upon request.

Forage Pembrokeshire also works in collaboration with many local artisans who deliver exceptional products, from picnic hampers to fine dining experiences and incredible drinks using wild ingredients.

Although it is mainly Dan providing the experiences, occasionally other highly trained instructors will be called upon to run or assist on sessions

Each experience is tailor-made to fit you, the weather and in some cases, the tides

Meet the Team

Dan Moar

Founder & Foraging Guide

Forage Pembrokeshire

Dan has had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and a fascination with nature that has been apparent from a very young age. Growing up in the sleepy fishing village of Boddam, Aberdeenshire, with rock-pools

literally a stones throw away from his back garden, coastal adventures and learning opportunities were never in short supply.

In 1999 the Moar's relocated to Laugharne, Carmarthenshire where Dan grew up playing, hunting, fishing and foraging in the woodlands, hedgerows and salt marshes of the river Taf estuary. This is where his journey into wild foods, gathered from the land and sea truly began. Spending his teenage years exploring the different habitats that surrounded him, learning to take advantage of the seasons and tune in to the abundant resources natures provides for us.

He has been practicing and developing his skills in a more serious capacity for the last two decades, and started teaching them professionally, as an outdoor educator and activity instructor in 2012. Since then he has worked all over the UK, delivering sessions for a variety of different outdoor activity providers, while gaining qualifications in outdoor activity leadership, team management, lifeguarding and target sports.

Moose

Chief stick collector squirrel chaser

Forage Pembrokeshire

Moose is Dan's dog, he comes along on most of the courses and loves nothing more than a full day exploring the woodlands or beaches with his human by his side.

He is a very friendly, Golden Retriever x Welsh Sheepdog who likes meeting new people, and other dogs to play with. He is also good with, and used to children.

Our foraging courses are Dog Friendly, and we welcome along well behaved dogs to join us on the day. Please let us know during the booking process if you will be bringing your pooch with you.

We also acknowledge that not everybody likes dogs, whether it is for allergies or they just make you feel uneasy, you can request a dog free course.

Collaborations
Annwn

Foraging experiences

An exciting collaboration between professional foragers Dan Moar & Matt Powell.

Annwn was created in 2021 by professional forager and chef, Matt Powell and his partner Naomi. They provide intimate fine dining experiences at the lovely Annwn restaurant in Pembrokeshire. As expected only fresh, locally sourced, and foraged ingredients make it on to their unique 7-10 course tasting menu. With Matt putting all of his time and focus into providing exceptional dishes that are giving the top Michelin star restaurants a run for their money, Dan is proud to have been asked to deliver the foraging experiences for Annwn's guests.

Annwn (pronounced A-noon) is a magical "other world" said to be the land of the fairies and other wonderful beings in Celtic mythology.
